First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, South Carolina

  On February 17, 2008, the youth choirs of Vienna Presbyterian and Falls Church Presbyterian Churches (Virginia) performed for us here at First Presbyterian Church. 

  Dr. Wilkerson’s (our Interim Pastor) son, Kerry, is the Assistant Music Director at Vienna Presbyterian Church.  Dr. Wilkerson asked if the VPC Youth Choir could come down to sing at our church and Kerry agreed.  He also got the youth from Falls Church Presbyterian Church’s choir to join the tour. 

  The group arrived Saturday, the 16^th of February, and sang with our church choir at the following morning’s worship service.  That evening, the two youth groups gave a concert at the church.  The theme, accented by Kim Jackson’s visual images, was how the darkness is overcome by the light and included the song “Go Light Your World.”

  Dr. Wilkerson describes the concert, tailored to our church, as “Just exceptional, outstanding.  All in all, the congregation appreciated very much [the young singers] enthusiasm and behavior. 

  Members of our church opened their homes to the young singers while they were here in Lancaster and we were really impressed with them.  One of our members commented that the youth choirs restored his “faith in the youth today.”

  VPC Youth Choir member Maddie Yoder recalls that our church members “...received us well.”  She says “I loved that we could go right in and minister with music, a really great medium to spread the word.”

  Andrew Schmidt, a VPC worship ministry intern and another of  the Vienna Presbyterian Church's youth choir’s members, says “This was one of the most rewarding tours we’ve made,” adding, “It was a lot of fun staying in people’s homes” and that the group “. . .loved the community there.”

  This was a blessing for everyone involved and we hope that they will be able to come and visit us again in the future!
